New Balance Pacesetters 30KM - 17 Jan 2010

Date : 17th January 2010

Venue : Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur

Time : 5:30am

AMAZING, it is the 1st word that I can utter. I can also bequeath this as one of the best runs in my life and it is for a good reason. I managed to excise about 1 hour out of my previous record which was 4hr 30mins, even though I was in a bad physical condition (Flu, Knee, Calf and Ankle Injury).

I managed to get above by extending my steps (longer strides), using the 1 leg run technique and managing my mental torture & the desire to walk (heh heh heh).

Ija ran 30KM and finish in 4hr 15mins + 2 toilet breaks.
Alex ran 30KM and finish in 3hr 38mins which is superb for a 1st timer.

Rupa ran 20KM and finish in 2hr 30mins + toilet break, which is excellent for her current level!!
Jaime ran 10KM and finish 1hr 10mins.

Below is my race result on my Nike+

It started as any other running days with my “kan cheong ness” feeling before the run & as usual I told myself that “I will quit at the finish line” :P.

At sharp 5:30am the horn was blown and the race started, the 1st challenge was the Padang Semarak uphill & Tugu loop then the famous Bukit Tunku 1st Hill followed by Damas Hill & continued by Bukit Tunku 2nd Hill till the finish line. Sounds simple isn’t? Trust me it is not as easy as you think it is till you do the run. Like what my boss say and I quote “nah, you didn’t tried hard enough”.

Event is superb a side from be below flaws:

1.> Lack of distance marker.

2.> Only 1 isotonic drink stop.

3.> Shortage of finisher medals and t-shirts.

Other than that, my applause & gratitude to New Balance & Pacesetter for organizing such a great event.

Event Rating : 6.5/10 – Above Average.
